Same-Sex Partnership or Marriage Separation

On behalf of Peterson, Berk & Cross, S.C.

In Wisconsin domestic partnerships became effective on August 1, 2009 and same-sex marriage was legalized on October 6, 2014. The family law legal system hasn’t quite caught up to all the needs of separating same-sex couples though, so it’s important to seek legal help when there are disputes or a separation. Knowing your legal rights in relation to child custody, support and many other issues is imperative before making any agreements.

Attorney Angela Boelter is a family law and divorce lawyer with over 15 years of experience. In recent years, Angela has worked to assist and advise parties who are ending a domestic partnership or same-sex marriage.

You should consider scheduling a consultation with Angela if you have questions about:

-The legal rights of a non-genetic or non-gestational mother;

-Who can be on the birth certificate for the children;

-Custody and child placement;

-Post-birth adoption;

-Child support;

-Maintenance (alimony);

-Property division.

The family law section at Peterson, Berk & Cross, S.C. offers a FREE, 30-minute consultation.
