Lawsuit claims medical malpractice led to misdiagnosis

When people in Wisconsin and across the country are facing an unexpected and sudden medical condition, they are often forced to put their trust in medical professionals. They believe that these professionals have the knowledge and experience needed to accurately diagnose their condition. Unfortunately, failure to meet the appropriate standard of care can have serious consequences for patients. In fact, a man in another state has accused two doctors of medical malpractice after they allegedly misdiagnosed his condition.

The young man claims that in March 2018, when he was 18 years old, he sought treatment in the middle of the night. Reports indicate that he was suffering from several symptoms, including sensory loss, numbness from his chest down and chest pain. A neurologist and physician's assistant ordered that he undergo an MRI. However, no contrast dye was injected to help provide clarity of the images.

A representative for the man claims that failure to use dye was a lapse in the appropriate standard of care. As a result, the patient received an incorrect diagnosis of conversion disorder, essentially stating that the man's symptoms had no physical explanation. However, it was later determined that his spinal cord was inflamed, a condition known as transverse myelitis.

The failure to adequately diagnose the patient caused physical injuries that are both permanent and serious, according to a representative for the man. As such, the plaintiff is asking for legal fees and damages in excess of $10,000. A representative for the health care facility where the man says the medical malpractice occurred denies the allegations but declined to issue any further statement. Unfortunately, there are those in Wisconsin who are also suffering as a result of negligence on the part of a health care professional. There are experienced legal professionals who can help them fully understand their potential options following such treatment.
