Auto–Pedestrian Accident Kills Green Bay Man

We may feel safer around here because we live in a less populous area that we can walk around without fear of being hit by a vehicle. However, we should always be on the lookout when we are on the roads because pedestrians have no protection from vehicles, which means that pedestrian accidents often result in severe injuries, even death. For example, a recent fatal pedestrian accident shows that roads, regardless of the city, are dangerous places for pedestrians.

The accident

According to Green Bay Police, a local man was killed in a pedestrian accident at the intersection of Main and Irwin at around 2:30 p.m. GBP claims the man was on Main Street traveling west when he was impacted by an eastbound vehicle. The vehicle was trying to make a left-hand turn onto Irwin. GBP are still investigating the crash and looking for witnesses or anyone else who may have dash camera footage of the incident.

The consequences

While the accident investigation has not yet been completed, the pedestrian in this accident has lost his life. The family of the victim will likely be seeking justice, and in addition, to any criminal charges the vehicle driver may face, they can seek civil justice through a type of personal injury lawsuit called a wrongful death lawsuit.

These lawsuits are essentially the same when it comes to proof and legal timelines, but the key difference is that the victim in the case has died as a result of the negligence of another, not just been injured. If the accident victim’s family can prove that the driver was negligent, and that this negligence caused the accident victim’s death, the negligent driver will be responsible for all the damages that resulted from that death.

While proving negligence and causality in a case is complicated enough, proving damages is an entirely additional part of a case. This is because the victim’s family has to prove their damages, including any medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, etc. This is why contacting an attorney immediately after these types of accidents can be so important.
