Wisconsin law presumes that a child’s parents are best suited to protect their interests and raise them how they choose. Grandparents, stepparents and other interested parties can petition the court for visitation rights. These petitions often surround situations where their grandchild’s parent (their child) is out of the picture due to abandonment, incarceration, drug abuse or other extenuating circumstances.
